The Community Area
The Marlborough Community Area is made up of the Town of Marlborough and 18 surrounding parishes, from Avebury in the West to Baydon in the North, Chilton Foliat in the East and Savernake to the South.
The town of Marlborough lies in the valley of the River Kennet between the Marlborough Downs and Savernake Forest. Described by Pepys as a "pretty fair town for a street or two", it retains its unique beauty and is an ideal touring centre. The High Street is said to be the widest in England and contains a number of speciality shops, pubs and restaurants.
Many of the parishes are located on the beautiful and atmospheric Marlborough Downs or around the former royal hunting forest of Savernake. However you choose to travel around the area there are vistas to wonder at and sights and details to savour.
