Environmental projects to protect local ameneities such as the Savernake Forest are supported by The Marlborough Area Development Trust

MADT and the Environment

The Trusts environmental aims are to:

  • Promote environmental improvement projects in the Marlborough Community Area
  • To facilitate the success of community based environment projects
  • To contribute to Local Authority planning initiatives which have the environment as a key element
  • To seek out and encourage suitable environmental areas for improvement
  • To contribute an environmental viewpoint to the projects directed by other sub-committees of the overall Trust
  • To facilitate the environmental aims of the Marlborough Area Community Plan

Two basic types of environment represent the Marlborough Community Area:

  1. The natural environment comprising areas such as the valley of the River Kennet, the extensive woods and forested areas and the down lands and escarpments of the chalk land landscape.
  2. The built environment comprising the urban areas of our villages and the market town of Marlborough.

Both types are amply represented in the Trust's area of interest and provide unique opportunities for preservation, conservation and sustainable development.

In recent times, MADT in conjunction with various partner organisations, has been able to facilitate and launch two Interpretative Panels. These panels provide a visible and lasting legacy of the work that MADT is undertaking to promote the Marlborough Community Area, its attractions and amenities.

MADT is proud to be a founding partner of the Marlborough River Restoration Scheme and works actively on the committee and in practical ways to help bring about improvements to the River Kennet where it flows through the urban area.

We are very interested to hear from community groups who are planning environmental projects in the Marlborough Community Area.
