MADT and the Local Economy

The Community Area Plan highlights the fact that the Marlborough Community Area engages in a wide range of economic activities - with a significant emphasis upon retail and tourism centred upon the town.

Locally however, business support networks have been seen as poor and among businesses there has been a perceived lack of a sense of belonging to the Marlborough Community.

Business premises are in short supply and this restricts the creation of new business and business expansion. Out-commuting from Marlborough is significantly high, and full-time job opportunities in the Community Area are fewer than the Wiltshire average

MADT is seeking to address some of these issues through:

  • Support for local businesses and other organisations through the development of a comprehensive on-line Directory facility within the MADT Community System.
  • Development of a Community WiFi system to encourage on-line enterprise and to support tourism.
  • Close working with the Chamber of Commerce to develop their on-line support processes.
  • Close working with the Marlborough Town Council to provide an on-line Tourist Information system.
